As we continue to look back through some of our favourite posts and some of the ones that we think offer the best advise as you get cracking with your wedding plans today we thought we’d revisit a guest post by our fantastic friend and Hair and Makeup artist extraordinaire Helen Guy as she fills you in on how to help you look your absolute best for the big day with some top tips for looking after your hair and skin in the run-up to the big day.

Looking after your hair and skin

Today I want to talk about skin care and hair care.

I cannot stress enough just how important it is to have a good skin care routine, especially in the run up to your big day. Cleanse, tone and moisturising should be your twice daily staple every day no matter what (and yes, even after a heavy night on the tiles).

Dermalogica is my skin care brand of choice and its the brand I use in my kit. It treats the skin gently yet does exactly what it says it can do, but whatever skincare routine you have it is better to have one than no skincare routine at all.

If you are new to skincare, start at least 6 months prior to your big day. We all lead busy lives and sometimes it seems such an indulgence to take a few minutes twice a day to spend on yourself but you will definitely reap the rewards with beautiful skin and a gorgeous complexion.

Now I know we all hear it a thousand times a day but a good diet, lots of fruit and vegetables and drinking enough water works too and can help with under eye shadows and skin sallowness.

If you can afford it, go for monthly facials. Look out for offers where a salon may give a reduction for block bookings. This is also a good time to spend relaxing as the stress of organising a wedding can take its toll on your skin too.

If you cannot stretch to a monthly facial at a salon, why not ring your local college and give them a try. The students are in training but are well supervised and can offer a very cost effective way of pampering your skin.

Now as well as looking after your skin, it is just as important to have a good haircare routine too.
Weekly conditioning treatments are a must and if you have the time to leave the treatment on for a minimum of 5 to 10 minutes you will really reap the rewards.

Wash your hair and apply the treatment using a shower cap to hold the heat in. Rinse off thoroughly after 5 to 10 minutes and then apply your usual conditioner to smooth the top layers of your hair down and lock in the treatment.

Taking this time to yourself will really play dividends and ensure you look the best you possibly can on your big day…

Product of the Fortnight

My product of the fortnight this time is Bobbi Brown Gel Liner in black.bobbi-brown-gel-liner

It is one of my top 5 essential kit staples and comes in a variety of other colours too that are perfect for the current vintage and elegant bridal looks.
Using a small slanted brush remove a small amount of liner onto your hand and PUT THE LID BACK ON. The product has a tendency to dry out and become unusable if this is not done.
Carefully line the top lid as close to the lashes as possible and then wing the line out at the edge towards the brow. You can go quite classically elegant or full on 60’s glamtastic with a thick line and full on winged look……perfect.
