Bridal Boutique – The Wedding Dress

Bride Vs Groom, Wedding BlogWARNING! KEEP OUT MATT…. NO GROOMS ALLOWED!

Welcome to Bridal Boutique! A groom free (& definitely Matt free!) zone where us girls can, from the privacy of our own screens, enjoy beautiful wedding dresses, OMG trains, shoes to-die-for and stunning birdcage veils to name just a few! All those things that Matt doesn’t have one little clue about …or have any inkling as to how much they’re going to be costing him! Teehee!!

Every week I am going in search of the most gorgeous items to help me (and hopefully you!) in my quest for the most perfect wedding dress and accessories for my upcoming nuptials.

As a self confessed tom-boy who wears dresses only on the most special of occasions and can mostly be found working away in her studio in leggings and long tops this is quite a challenge. I am not naturally graceful or slender (I’m rubbish in heels!) and I am NOT one of those girls who looks beautiful crying, has impeccable fashion sense and looks like they have just walked out of a salon every day… you know who you are, you lucky girls! So for me creating that perfect, idillic look is not going to be an easy ride! I want to be all those things on my wedding day (ok I accept that I mustn’t cry or I will look like a cherry tomato!) but I really want to look like I was made for a dress, was born in heels (like Beyonce… le sigh) and that most importantly when Matt sees me for the first time he gasps and sees a different side of the girl that he shares his life with: a glamorous, confident woman who glides down the aisle, possibly with people swooning at her sheer radiance… hey a girl can dream! (Although to be honest I’ll be pleased if I make it down the aisle without tripping over in my heels and falling head-first into the watching guests!)

At the very least though I want to look beautiful and sassy and feel good in the wedding dress… now to me if I can crack how I FEEL in the dress then that will be a massive achievement and I have a theory that if I feel good I will look good. I reckon a huge smile and a confident walk will go a long, long way….or so I hope!

People always tell me (being a wedding photographer I hear this a lot!) that when you find the dress you will just know it is the ONE. I am banking on this being true otherwise unless I spot a dress with a huge neon arrow “THIS IS IT DOM” sign hanging over it I don’t honestly think I’m going to have a clue.

So here goes…. the search for the wedding dress begins…

I would love to hear from you brides-to-be on your successes (or failures) on finding your wedding dresses and any tips you have for a slightly stressed out bride in waiting! :-S

I think the best way of starting this mammoth task is looking at all the different kinds of wedding dresses that are out there..traditional, quirky, short, floor length, lace… Start with a blank canvas; no category is to be ignored and everything is to be considered!

Here are my favourites that I have found this week… Beau-ti-ful! What’re your favourites?

I love this Monique Lhuillier wedding dress with princess silhouette and sweetheart neckline.

The applique ruffles are just divine, sweeping beautifully to the floor and the colour is just lush. Yum.

Ok… so apparently I love Ruffles! 🙂

This romantic ball gown is created from layers of soft organza and the ruched bodice features a sweetheart neckline with Swarovski crystal and pearl brooch accent.

I love the fitted bodice and then the masses of beautiful falling fabric underneath, very flattering to us curvier ladies!

Or what about this preppy little number?

This gorgeous but simple frock would be perfect for a very English affair wedding. The detailing of the bows on the shoulder are very elegant and the retro-silhouette skirt is stylish and a tiny bit quirky.

Oh where’s my home-made lemonade and where the devil did I put that croquet set?! Delicious.

Wow my goodness! This is an exquisite dress, fit for royalty.

I absolutely go wild for this flirty strapless tea length number! The two-tone tulle features Venice lace applications and elegant beading detailing on the bodice.

A silk dupioni sash cinches the waist of this adorable dress.

How about something completely different?!

This zany bright dress with sheer neck detailing, a scalloped hem, keyhole back, and allover lace would be perfect for a dare-to-bare bride.

I say if you have the style and the edge go for it! Oh and killer legs obviously…

Speaking of daring-to-bare…

This Elie Saab lace wedding dress would be simply fabulous; with its lace floor length dress and intricate detail it is just simply crying out to be worn by a very lucky bride.
