Contacting Suppliers: Face to Face Vs Phone and Email

Whether they’re a wedding planner, makeup artist, photographer, videographer… finding the right suppliers for you can be a real challenge and, particularly with certain suppliers spending quite a lot of time with you over the course of the wedding, making the right choices can have a big impact on your day. But for such an important choice is it necessary to meet your future suppliers in person?

Time to find out!

In the Red corner, fighting for the face to face meeting, well she does love a chat and once you get her started there’s no stopping her, it’s Dom “The Tog Bride”

In the Blue corner, happy to find alternative means to get in touch, mostly because he wouldn’t want too many people meeting him and realising he’s not actually a cartoon… it’s Matt “The Gormless Groom”.

Face to Face Vs Phone and Email
FIGHT!!!

Dom: Having a face to face meeting is a great opportunity to really get to know your suppliers and see if you click with them. For photographers in particular this can be very important as you’re going to be spending the entire day with them and you want to feel relaxed and at ease with them on the day to help you get the best shots which can be much more difficult if you’ve never actually met before.

Matt: But some people find it much easier to get their points across and their questions answered more directly via email or over the phone and can feel more like they’re being talked around rather than making up their own minds.

Dom: Visiting the supplier in person enables you to see some of their products up close, whether it’s the flowers, details for the reception or perhaps even a wedding album. After all, you want to see as much of each supplier’s work as possible before making your decision.

Matt: Most suppliers only cater for one wedding per day and whilst you’re waiting to have a face to face meeting your date is unlikely to be held for you so you could end up missing out.

Dom: Technology can always fail and even if you’re having a video chat you can easily find your conversation interrupted leading to miscommunications and occasionally frustration which is rarely a good way to get your relationship started off!

Matt: Its often difficult to find a date when you can physically meet up, but a simple phone call or email can be answered at your own convenience which makes it much easier.

Dom: Phone calls tend to be so rushed though and no-one wants to send vast emails back and forth; a face to face meeting allows you to take your time and really get the answers you’re looking for.

Matt: A lot of wedding suppliers work nationwide and may not be located anywhere near you meaning you would have to potentially travel vast distances to meet all of them in person which as well as time has added cost implications. Video chats are a much more efficient way of seeing each other face to face.

Dom: Video chats are certainly better than just emails and phone calls but it’s still very difficult to really connect with a person purely over video chat as there’s always a bit of a wall between you – it’s much nicer to meet up, share a pot of tea and have a bit of a chat.
