The Friday Fight-Out: Christmassy Wedding Vs Winter Wonderland

If you’re getting married in December you have a decision to make. Do you want your wedding to be full of all things Christmas or are you looking for something more like a Winter Wonderland than a Christmas themed occasion? There are undoubtedly positives and negatives of each approach and so this week we thought we’d put our expert debaters into the ring and see exactly what those advantages and disadvantages are…

In the Red Corner, walking in a winter wonderland and currently sporting a rather fetching winter reindeer top that she insists is wintery and not Christmassy… we’ll see about that, it’s Dom “The Tog Bride”

In the Blue Corner, arguing as ever for all things Christmas, he’s also wearing a reindeer jumper but admittedly the big smiley face and bright red nose does seem to suggest Christmas more than Dom’s, it’s Matt “The Gormless Groom”

Dom: There are so many cool things you can do with a winter wedding – you can even create an icy “Narnia” feel which can be really magical.

Matt: During December everyone is already in the Christmas mood so why not embrace it and make the most of it to help you create a fantastic atmosphere on your big day!

Dom: Lights lights and more lights! Winter weddings give you the chance to create some really beautiful romantic moods using classy lighting and candles. Christmas lights are altogether a little more cheesy!

Matt: Christmas weddings are great for any kids that may be coming – you can have all kinds of festive entertainment and even an appearance from the big man himself!

Dom: Christmas decorations are in every house, shop and restaurant in December, if you want your wedding venue to look a little different then a winter wedding will stand out more and prevent your big day becoming just another Christmas party for the guests.

Matt: But the fact that decorations are so readily (and cheaply) available makes it so much easier to make your venue look incredible without having to go to anywhere near as much effort as it would otherwise be!

Dom: But having a winter wonderland theme still allows you to make use of some of the available Christmas decorations – you can just pick and choose the bits that work for you like Penguins, snow and Polar bears!

Matt: Having a Christmassy wedding gives you the opportunity to make your wedding also a great big Christmas party with all your friends that you otherwise might not get to see at Christmas a perfect combination and two for the price of one!

Dom: Winter weddings tend to have a slightly classier feel than Christmas ones as Christmas decorations (though lovely) can be a little more fun and cheesy rather than the sleek sophisticated winter feel.

Matt: Chances are your venue will probably already have some form of Christmas decorations up at that time of year and rather than have to spend time taking them all down and then back up again surely it’s better to embrace and build on them giving you at least some of your venue decorations free of charge and without going to any effort whatsoever!
