The Festive Friday Fight-Out: Yule Log Vs Christmas Pud

Now I appreciate that normally our Friday Fight-Outs are strictly wedding based but today we thought we’d step away from the wedding world for a week to settle one of the great debates of Christmas dinner history: Yule Log Vs Christmas Pud

So, to settle our debate let’s meet our expert contestants…

FRIDAY_FIGHT_OUT New

In the Red Corner, fighting for the good old Yule log although for dietary reasons she’d prefer not to be called a Pudding expert thank you very much, it’s Dom “The Tog Bride”.

In the Blue Corner, battling for the traditional Christmas pudding dessert, although as he has been known to eat up to 14 sausages with his Christmas dinner dessert may have to wait a few hours anyway, it’s Matt “The Gormless Groom”.

Yule Log Vs Christmas Pudding
FIGHT!!

Dom: Christmas pudding is a really stodgy, heavy dessert – the last thing you want after stuffing yourself with Turkey, whereas Yule logs are very sweet but a little lighter.

Matt: But it’s delicious! Especially soaked in brandy or rum with a Bailey’s cream sauce… mmm… pudding…

Dom: Yule log is amazing too though and you need something sweet rather than savoury after all those carbs!

Matt: Christmas pudding has been the traditional dessert since medieval times and Christmas is all about tradition!!

Dom: But the Yule log is traditional too! The Yule log used to be an actual log burned on the hearth as part of the Yule or Christmas celebrations and the cake version is there to remember that tradition in an age when few people have hearths to burn a real one on!

Matt: Having Christmas pudding with your Christmas meal is just a rule… like how you have to have sprouts as part of the dinner even if nobody actually likes them!

Dom: Chocolate!!! ‘Nuff said!!

Matt: Yule log is the sort of thing that can be eaten later on in the day to keep you going along with the mince pies and jam tarts, Christmas pudding is definitely the actual dessert!

Dom: Christmas pudding has fruit in it – fruit has no place in a Christmas day treat!

Matt: But Christmas pudding can also have silver coins in it which you get to keep if you find one in your portion and it’s supposed to bring wealth for the coming year… bonus!

So those are our thoughts but come Christmas day where will you be standing (or rather slouched completely unable to stand following a hearty christmas dinner!)? Place your votes below or leave a comment to join the debate!
