The Friday Fight-out – Wedding Transport – Classic Car Vs Alternative Transportation

FRIDAY FIGHT OUT!D’ya know something? IT’S ONLY RUDDY FRIDAY!!! The weekend is about to begin and that can only mean one thing: It’s time for the showdown, the face-off, the battle Royale, the main event! That’s right, it’s time once again for the big one; the Bride Vs Groom FRIDAY FIGHT-OUT!!!

Now, I may be Gormless when it comes to the whole wedding thing, but this week I’m definitely going to win! Why so confident? Well three reasons actually: Firstly this week’s topic is one I can actually understand, secondly I know Dom has a soft-spot for both sides of this particular argument and thirdly of course…I’ll cheat!

So without further ado may I present this week’s Friday Fight-out topic:

Wedding Transport: Classic car or Alternative Transportation?

“Erm…you told me we were doing make-up: Pro or diy?!!”

“Did I? Sorry, slip of the tongue.” In the red corner, battling on behalf of alternative means of transport; pictured astride her mighty Warhorse “Paddington the Destroyer”, she’s photographed everything from horse drawn carts to double decker buses to Porsches, Bentleys and Ferraris… it’s Dom “The Tog” Bride.

In the blue corner, fighting on behalf of the classic car, pictured mounted upon his charger “Small Lazy Horse”, he can’t afford a carriage but has put in a low bid on Ebay for a two seated bicycle… It’s Matt “The Gormless” Groom.

Lances up, let the contest begin!

Dom: There’s nothing like the impact of a beautiful horse-drawn carriage pulling up to the church and a beautiful bride stepping out in her stunning dress. It’s unique, stylish and the ultimate grand entrance: think Royal Wedding!

Matt: If we’re talking Royal wedding how cool was the Aston Martin convertible they left the palace in?! Pulling up in that classic car is a sensational look: stylish, sophisticated and glamorous.

D: The carriage is such an extraordinary means of transport: all eyes are on you on your special day: it’s the entrance little girls dream about: the fairytale Princess arriving as her royal guests await.

M: For most guys (and a lot of the girls too) there is one car that they’ve always wanted to drive and the wedding is their one chance to live out that fantasy. Whether it’s a chauffeur driven Rolls Royce or a slick Ferrari, it’s your day; live your dreams!

D: A horse and carriage is a photographer’s dream: you can get some truly epic photos!

M: True… although horses do lead to a certain amount of…mess to edit out!

D: The transport is another opportunity to express yourself and show your style: One of my favourite weddings last year was that of two huge surfing fans who chose as their transportation an amazing VW camper-van! They loved it so much it became part of the theme of the day and was really unique and special to them!

M: A car can be equally as expressive; it doesn’t have to be the classic vintage car, what about turning up in a Bond style Aston Martin DB9, or, on the other end of the scale something fun like an original Mini or VW Beetle?! Different cars have all kinds of connotations and can help to stamp your mark on the day!

D: What about joining the guests to travel from the ceremony? A vintage double decker bus can be an amazing, fun method of transport as well as a practical means to take the guests between venues! A huge “Just Married” banner across the front would be a great, fun statement and having seen buses used at weddings it’s a great talking point for the guests!

M: But the effect of putting on the ribbon and tying the cans on the back might get a bit lost on a bus…it’d probably run them over!!

D: What about doing something extraordinary? The ultra-flash arrival by helicopter, or even hang-gliding in and leaving together in a hot-air balloon?

M: There’s not too many venues where you can land a helicopter and do you really want to do something that risky just before getting married? It would be dramatic but incredibly difficult to pull off and the chances of something going wrong are enormous!

D: Matt…you do know I’m not going to let you have the car from Back to the Future right?

M: Oh… ok maybe cars are only ok…

FINAL REMARKS:

D: The classic car is without doubt a great way to travel, but alternatives like the horse and cart offer something different that you may never experience again and can help to make the grandest of entrances. Doing something a bit different helps to put your stamp on your day and can give an often needed talking point for guests that may not know each other well.

M: The car is classic for a reason! A car can have just as much impact as any other means of transport and as well as being truly stylish it’s also the most practical method of getting around on the day. It’s a chance to travel the way you always wanted and there’s huge scope for expressing yourself in the type of car that you choose. You can also keep it for the whole day and leave in it at the end of the night unlike other forms of transport. A chauffeur driven car is perhaps the ultimate luxury and one for you to really enjoy on the day.

So, the battle has been fought but we await the judges scores. Who will win the battle? Or can you help to swing the fight? Let us know by leaving your comments in the section below!

I go for whoever voted for the horse – good for the environment and cheap to run! In fact, more animals should be used in weddings!ReplyCancel
