The Friday Fight-Out: Winter Vs Christmas Wedding

When you’re planning on having a December wedding it’s easy to find your ideas naturally following a festive, Christmassy path. But should your Yule-time wedding really jingle all the way or is the theme of winter itself enough to give you chills? More importantly though, did I really just make those two puns?! Crackers!

In the Red Corner, fighting for an elegant winter wedding, she differentiates between Christmas and Winter weddings by the amount they make her want to go and watch A Muppet Christmas Carol afterwards, it’s Dom “The Tog Bride

In the Blue Corner, although perhaps the red one would have been a more festive Christmas colour for his arguments, he claims that the difference between Winter and Christmas is whether you simply build a snowman or whether you go walking in the air with it, it’s Matt “The Gormless Groom

Winter Vs Christmas Wedding…
FIGHT!!

Winter Vs Christmas Wedding

Dom: Your wedding is about your day, your celebration and if it becomes too much about Christmas then it’s quite easy for your wedding to be diluted into more of a Christmas party than a wedding day for the guests, you’re already going to be celebrating Christmas, surely your wedding should be something different.

Matt: But Christmas is considered the happiest time of year whilst Winter’s the most miserable. Getting a little Christmas cheer around the place can hugely enhance the atmosphere!

Dom: Everywhere you go in the run up to Christmas buildings will be filled with Christmas decorations and you don’t just want your venue to look the same as everywhere else, you want it to have its own style.

Matt: But chances are your own venue will already be decorated for Christmas generally (in reception etc.) even if you’re not going for that theme yourself. It seems sensible to make use of that fact and tie it all together so that the entire venue rather than just the room you’re in has a unified theme.

Dom: With winter weddings you can make it all about that romantic winter feel: think candles and warming yourselves by a big log fire. Christmas tends to be more about fairylights and bold colours rather than the more muted tones of the rest of winter.

Matt: At Christmas time there are so many different styes of Christmas decoration available everywhere you go making it really easy (and cheap!) to get all kinds of decorations to cover your venue.

Dom: Much as we love it Christmas can have quite a cheesy brash style whereas winter weddings are all about elegance and class.

Matt: Having a Christmas theme is great for the kids! You could even ring the north pole and see whether the big man could make an appearance, perhaps even have a fun secret santa for the guests!

Dom: Hot chocolate and Marshmallows… just saying!

Matt: Mulled wine and Mince pies… right back at you!
